Biography

Mr. Robert Porter is an Indigenous family advocate member of York Factory First Nation. Two of his children were diagnosed with IBD. The youngest daughter, Lisa, suffered and lost her life due to IBD. Lisa was diagnosed when she was 13 years old and required surgical interventions which were expected to help her. As a parent, he experienced the challenges of accessing IBD care. Mr. Porter witnessed discrimination, racism, and barriers to accessing appropriate and timely treatments. He has been involved in multiple research projects in the field of gastroenterology to advocate for the health and well-being of Indigenous community members affected by chronic gastrointestinal conditions. Robert also stays busy with 16 grandchildren and 5 great children (at the moment), while trying to golf as hoes does love golf.
