Wellness Committee

The pervasive pressures of the competitive culture of research environments, the philosophy of ‘publish or perish’, structural issues and systemic biases, career uncertainty, and lack of access to support are some of the major drivers of mental health issues for students, fellows, and early career faculty (ECRs). These drivers make succeeding as GI and Liver researchers and health professionals more difficult and, for some, impossible. This is especially true for people who face heightened barriers due to their race, gender, orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, age, and/or other intersections of identity and lived experience. Our Wellness Committee, which includes student, fellow, and ECR representatives focuses on:

  • building wellness-promoting structures, policies, and education into all aspects of our program
  • dismantling the systemic issues within our control that create barriers for, and negatively impact the wellness and success of, current and potential TRIANGLE members
  • helping TRIANGLE members develop skills and strategies to navigate the challenges of the current research environment and their impacts on physical, mental, and emotional wellness.
