After my second year of undergraduate studies, I secured an internship with Dr. Karen Madsen at the University of Alberta (U of A). This marked my first exposure to research, where I developed an interest in studying inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and microbiome-targeted therapies. The following year, I was a summer student researcher with Dr. David Westaway where I studied microbiome involvement in frontotemporal dementia (FTD). With a sustained curiosity and combined interest in IBD, immune homeostasis, and host-microbiome interactions, I pursued graduate level training in Dr. Laura Sly's lab in September 2021 and transferred to the doctoral program in September 2023. My research focuses on improving the delivery of anti-inflammatory small molecule drugs to the distal gastrointestinal tract through a microbiome-cleavable glycoconjugate prodrug system, enhancing their efficacy in treating IBD. Outside of the lab, I spend most of my time either in the mountains or at the gym. I enjoy cooking and baking. Recently, I joined a dragon boat team and am excited for the upcoming competitions next year.
