Dr. Wine is a Professor of Pediatrics & Physiology, Clinician Scientist, & Pediatric Gastroenterologist at the University of Alberta. He completed a Pediatric GI fellowship at the SickKids, and a PhD in Cellular Microbiology at the University of Toronto. Dr. Wine's clinical expertise is managing children with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) with specific interest in diet. This interest fits well with his laboratory research focus on mechanisms of microbial virulence related to IBD, and the complex interplay between diet, microbes, and disease, enabling translational bench-to-bedside research. Dr. Wine is internationally recognized for both research and clinical aspects related to IBD. He is Co-Chair of the Canadian Children IBD Network (cidscann.ca), where he is involved in multiple basic, translational, and clinical studies, and is on the Executive of the ESPGHAN Porto IBD Group. He is also co-lead on the new ESPGHAN/ECCO guidelines for management of pediatric ulcerative colitis.
