Dr. Carolina Tropini is an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, where she leads a dynamic research group investigating the complex interactions between the gut microbiota and human health. With a background in biophysics from Stanford University, her research is driven by the desire to understand how physical changes in the gut environment-like those occurring during disease-affect microbial communities. The Tropini Lab integrates microbiology, bioengineering, and biophysics to translate scientific discoveries into tangible health improvements. Motivated by the potential to address real-world health issues, Dr. Tropini is passionate about mentoring scientists and fostering a collaborative research environment. She is especially committed to breaking barriers in STEM, promoting and supporting underrepresented groups. Outside the lab, Dr. Tropini enjoys outdoor activities with her family, including hiking and cooking, as well as unwinding with her two dogs, two cats and a small flock of backyard chickens.
