My name is Antony, and I am a second-year medical student at the University of Toronto. Throughout my undergraduate studies in biochemistry, I came to appreciate the translation and application of scientific research in medical practice. I have pursued this interest by modelling rare genetic conditions as a research student at SickKids Hospital with Dr. Ashish Deshwar. My clinical experiences, research work, and personal interests have guided my affinity for gastroenterology as a prospective specialty. Outside of the laboratory and hospitals, I am passionate about health and fitness, music, and time with my friends and family. The CONNECT Summer Student program is an exciting opportunity to connect with leaders in the field and develop professional skills. My research will investigate the involvement of the ALMS1 gene in liver disease through human cell models. Overall, I aim to conduct meaningful research that expands scientific knowledge and benefits individuals with liver conditions.
